40MM · FORGED CARBON · TELEMETRE SCALE · AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH
A Scale That Measures Distance By Sound
Start it when you see the thing happen. Stop it when you hear it.
Inside the ring of orange numerals there is a second, finer scale marked TELEMETRE. It is not decoration and it is not a reprint of the tachymeter on the bezel — it does a different job.
Light arrives effectively at once; sound does not. Start the chronograph at the flash of a firework or a distant strike, stop it when the sound reaches you, and read the scale where the hand lands. That is how far away it was.
It is an old instrument function and almost nothing in this catalogue carries one. On this dial it is the reason the face is busy in a way that earns itself.

WARM METAL ON A COLD DIAL
Rose Gold Against Ice Blue
The rings, the spoked hands, the markers, the pushers and the crown.
The dial is pale ice blue — a cold colour, and flat enough to show everything laid on it. Every piece of metal on the face is rose gold, which is about as warm as metal gets.
The three counters are brushed silver inside rose-gold rings, and their hands are spoked rather than solid, so you see the counter surface through them.
The hour and minute hands are rose gold; the chronograph seconds hand is tipped in orange to tie the hands back to the numerals. The pushers and winding crown are rose gold too, so the warmth carries round the side of the case.
Printing Two Scales On One Dial
The hard part is fitting them both without either becoming clutter.
Case Pressed
Case, bezel insert and caseback come out of the press as forged carbon, its bezel numerals then printed in pale gold.
Dial Laid Out
The outer ring of Arabic numerals is set first, one to twelve, large enough to read at a glance.
The Telemetre Printed Inside
The finer scale and its numbers go inside the numerals in the same orange, close enough to use and far enough not to crowd them.
Rose Gold Fitted
Counter rings, spoked counter hands, applied markers and the main hands are fitted, then the pushers and crown.
Movement And Test
The automatic chronograph movement goes in, and the watch is run and regulated before boxing.

Why It Reads As Expensive
Two scales, twelve numerals and three counters on a forty-millimetre dial is a layout problem before it is a design one — crowd it and the watch becomes unreadable. Finished and boxed at $949.
